Phil got his BA in 1972 from Lake Forest College as International Relations major with a Chemistry minor (so he understands the scientific principles of breath testing equipment, blood draw and other lab results, field tests, etc. involved in DUI's and other criminal defense cases). He worked as a professional musician and recording artist for several years playing drums and guitar and had a contract with a major record label, too. He graduated from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago in 1982 “With Distinction” in the top 11% of his graduating class and was nominated to The Order of John Marshall (an honorary scholastic society). After working as an intern staff attorney at Prairie State Legal Services, in Waukegan, IL, handling primarily felony criminal defense and family law cases, and low-income eviction defense clients, he worked as a paralegal and researcher for a products liability and personal injury firm, Starobin & Abrahamson, in Thiensville, WI and moved to Seattle in 1984.
Phil took and passed the Washington State Bar exam in 1986 and worked as an associate attorney in Seattle doing mostly family law litigation and legal research, and some hearings for the Law Offices of Rodney G. Pierce. In 1989 Phil started his own firm in Woodinville, WA, Law Offices of Phillip L. Weinberg, as a solo attorney in private practice. This has always been a small law practice serving North King and Snohomish Counties and the Eastside. His criminal defense practice emphasized DUI, misdemeanor and felony criminal defense, with special and creative focus on effectively presenting defendants' dual diagnosis conditions with much success. The early years of this business were devoted to general practice, including real estate, family law, personal injury, probate and general civil litigation.
But for over 20 years, Phil has focused almost exclusively on DUI defense and criminal defense, but also accepts selected family law cases. He is an experienced criminal defense, family law and personal injury practitioner, a skilled communicator and negotiator, with excellent legal drafting, research, drafting and writing skills, and over decades in practice has demonstrated his highly developed ability to efficiently and thoroughly process detailed, voluminous discovery and technical information, develop and simplify procedures and find innovative defense solutions.
Phil is an Active Member, Washington State Bar Association, Washington State Trial Lawyers Association and the Snohomish County Bar Association; and a past member of the American Bar Association, the National Trial lawyers for Public Justice, the National Association for Criminal Justice Lawyers, the Washington Association for Criminal Justice Lawyers, and the King County Bar Association. Attorney Phil Weinberg is intensely committed to professional and personal excellence.
